Angelina Jolie has had her ovaries removed after doctors detected possible signs of cancer, the actress has revealed in a self-penned article for the New York Times.
Jolie, who had a double mastectomy in 2013, said this surgery was “less complex, but had more severe effects”, disclosing that it put her into forced menopause.
She made the decision after a blood test uncovered signs of possible early cancer.Jolie carries a gene that increases her chance of ovarian cancer by around 50 percent and said that three women in her family had died of cancer.
She had the procedure – a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy – last week, saying:

It is not possible to remove all risk, and the fact is I remain prone to cancer. I will look for natural ways to strengthen my immune system. I feel feminine, and grounded in the choices I am making for myself and my family. I know my children will never have to say, “Mom died of ovarian cancer.”
