Leleti khumalo (Actress from the Award winning Sarafina) will be starring in SABC1’s new telenovela; Uzalo which is set in Kwazulu Natal. Uzalo delves into the lives of the Mdletshe and the Xulu families who are immersed in contradictory worlds of church and crime respectively.

The narrative tells the story of two family dynasties and the two young men who carry their hopes and legacies as they face the complexities of money, family and love.

The Mdletshe’s are a God-fearing family with its patriarch pastor Melusi Mdletshe played by Bheki Mkhwane who was also a patriarch in Isibaya. Leleti plays the devout Christian mother Zandile Mdletshe.

The actress shared with City Press that she still finds acting for TV very nerve-wrecking.

She said that it has been challenging, both professionally and emotionally.  “I am still not comfortable with acting on TV – even with so many years of experience, I still get nervous.”

Uzalo is written by decorated playwright-producer Duma Ndlovu, Uzalo is produced by Gugulethu Ncube and Pepsi Pokane.

The show brings a refreshing mix of established and emerging talent.
