Miss South Africa Ziphozakhe Zokufa wears a copy of Bonang Matheba’s R80,000 Gert-Johan Coetzee dress.
Ziphozahle Zokufa ( An ATV production student from Port Elizabeth ) was recently crowned the new Miss South Africa in December after Rolene Strauss won the Miss World title in London because Zokufa was her first princess she was automatically made the new Miss SA. She is now in Miami, in the US, where she is enjoying the build-up to the 63rd Miss Universe finals on January 25.
The green gown Zokufa wore to a recent dinner party was identical to the one Matheba sported at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards, which were held in Durban last June.
But Coetzee, who needed a team of 12 to help design Zokufa’s two gowns for the upcoming pageant, said: “It’s not about who wore it better, it’s about showing the world what we’re made of.
“That is an archive dress, and one of the best dresses I’ve made.
“We fitted many dresses on her and that one fit her so well.”
In a caption beneath a picture she posted on social media of her in the dress , Zokufa said: “Thank you ever so much @gertjohancoetzee for this amazingly beautiful gown .”
According to Miss SA licence holder, Sun International, Zokufa will wear two gowns – the national costume which was designed by Gregg Maragelis from the Cape Town College of Fashion Design, and the finale gown, created by Coetzee.
Coetzee also described the two dresses he sent Zokufa off to Miami with.
“The first dress is very Hollywood red carpet with an African influence. The second is a long-train white dress, and it has a lot of lace and it has an open back and it is beautifully fitted to her body.”
Zokufa has so far engaged in a golf putting tournament with Donald Trump, zumba lessons, a cooking contest, and even a national gift auction.
